Insider Tips: Experience VIP Airport Perks Without a First-Class Ticket

I really want to fly first class every time I travel, but the truth is, I usually end up turning right when I board. I convince myself it’s better to save money and splurge on a fabulous hotel and unforgettable experiences at my destination. While that’s true, let’s be honest – we’d all love to fly first class if we had the means!

After many years of traveling, I’ve discovered some budget-friendly ways to get that VIP airport experience without paying for a first class ticket. These tricks make it feel like you’re flying first class, at least until you board the plane.

I also use these services when traveling with my baby son. Airports are stressful enough, but adding a baby into the equation makes it even tougher! These services help make the whole airport experience smooth and luxurious, kicking off your trip on the right foot.

If you’re traveling for a special occasion, consider booking these services as a surprise for your companions. Imagine their delight when you whisk them through security and treat them to champagne in a luxurious lounge.

Meet and Greet at the Airport

Whenever I’m not flying from London, I always drive to the airport and use a meet and greet parking service. Some people might think it’s an unnecessary expense, but once you’ve tried it, you’ll never go back to budget airport parking where the lot is miles away!

Too many times, I’ve had long flights back home, landing exhausted with heavy luggage. I’m often dressed inappropriately after coming from a hot climate. After a lengthy security check (thanks, Manchester Airport!), I find myself in the dark, cold rain, waiting 20 minutes for a bus to take me to my car. Then, it’s a struggle to find my car in the dark, dragging my heavy suitcase around a wet parking lot, my flip-flops flicking puddles up my legs.

At that moment, I’d gladly pay any amount for someone to be waiting at the airport door with my keys, maybe even with the car heaters and seat warmers already on.

Meet and greet services are often not much more expensive than budget car parks, especially if booked in advance. It’s definitely worth upgrading.

Fast Track Through Security

For less than a fiver, you can speed through security using the fast track lanes. This is probably the best money you’ll spend all day. I like to breeze through security quickly and get to the other side as fast as possible.

Just a note: This isn’t usually worth it if you’re flying very early in the morning when the airport is quiet.

Airport Lounge

You don’t need to fly premium economy, business, or first class to access an airport lounge. Isn’t that fantastic?

Most airports offer luxury lounges you can pay to enter, typically around £20. Personally, I can easily spend that amount in the airport on coffee, food, maybe a glass of wine or beer, some snacks, and a stack of magazines. All these are included in the lounge – along with an all-you-can-eat buffet, hot meals, alcoholic drinks, WiFi, loads of magazines, and soft drinks. Plus, you get the serene atmosphere of a luxury lounge with quiet spaces, comfy sofas, and movie areas. Totally worth every penny!

It’s a good idea to book in advance for a cheaper rate because once the lounge is full, they won’t let anyone else in.

I like the No.1 Traveller Lounge – they also offer a VIP Departure Service if you really want to go big. If you’re celebrating something special, consider upgrading to the Champagne Package.

Go Luggage Free

A true VIP wouldn’t be bogged down with luggage, and neither should you. Concierge services like airportr will pick up and deliver your luggage to and from the airport, whether from your home, hotel, or office. This is especially helpful if you’ve got a lot of luggage or are taking public transport to the airport. There’s nothing worse than struggling through the London Underground with heavy bags during rush hour! Prices start at just £15, making it much cheaper than a cab.
