Singapore is often dubbed as a giant shopping mall, and although there’s plenty to do, shopping stands out as the top activity.
Regardless of how much time you spend in Singapore, you’ll never hit every single shop. You can move seamlessly from one underground mall to another without even seeing daylight, or find yourself lost in the bustling street stalls. Writing a complete guide would take ages, so here are some highlights and my personal favorites.
Orchard Road
Begin your shopping trip on Orchard Road, a paradise for shoppers. After a S$40 million makeover, it’s easy to see why it’s a top destination. The sheer number of shopping malls here is astounding.
The Shoppes
Situated at Marina Bay Sands, this sprawling mall is packed with designer stores. While it might not fit a backpacker’s budget, it’s worth a visit just to see the gondolas, beautiful water features, and even an ex-F1 car on display.
Raffles Shopping Mall
This mall features an array of designer shops and high street stores. Don’t miss the food court below, which offers a fantastic blend of Asian and Western dishes.
Funan IT Mall
Funan IT Mall is a tech enthusiast’s paradise, located conveniently near City Hall Station. It’s filled with gadgets and electronics. Prices can vary, so it’s wise to shop around. The staff are knowledgeable and helpful, catering to both amateur and expert techies.
Little India
Little India is renowned for its gold jewelry, offering unique and affordable gifts compared to other jewelry stores. You’ll also find saris, sarongs, ornaments, and a heap of knock-off DVDs.
Chinatown
In Chinatown, the Singapore Handicraft Centre is a great spot for bargaining on souvenirs and gifts. You can find diverse items here, such as paintings, pottery, wood carvings, textiles, and statues.
The Suntec City Mall
Even if you’re tired of shopping, visit Suntec City Mall to see the world’s largest fountain. It’s definitely worth a look!
Have you stumbled upon any shopping spots that rival Singapore or think I missed a great place? Let me know!
